Guide to Creating Successful Events in your Calendar

Below is a guide on creating your events in your public Google Calendar. Following this guide helps make sure events are listed consistently so that users can easily follow what is happening and will attend more activities.

Please remember that all events that you post to your public calendars can be seen by anybody. Youth’s full names and anything else that is considered sensitive should not be added to your events.

Title (1)

The title is one of the most important fields as it is what the user will see first and from that, will decide whether or not to click on the event to see more information.

A good title includes what is happening, along with the type of event it is. Common event types are listed below.

 Event Types

  • Meeting

  • Service Project

  • Fun Event

  • Installation

  • Initiation

  • Visit

  • Fundraiser

Examples of Good titles

  • Formal Business Meeting

  • W&OD Trail Cleanup Service Project

  • Laser Tag Fun Event

  • Ashburn #11 Installation

  • Springfield #14 Installation Visit

  • Monthly Breakfast Fundraiser

Date and Time (2)

Make sure you always include the date and time of your event.

Location (3)

Include the full location of where your event is being held. This will allow users of the MYG app to click on the event, and then the location to have directions open in their selected map application.

Calendar (4)

If you have multiple calendars, please make sure to choose the correct calendar.

Description (5)

The description is where you can place all of the details about the event, including a possible link. Great descriptions often include some combination of the following:

  • Who can attend the event

  • Any costs for attending the event.

  • Why you are having the event (Example: All proceeds for this fundraiser will go to the Brad Kaminsky Foundation)

  • Other information that will help non-members understand what the event is and encourage them to join you at the event.

When you have entered all of the above fields, please remember to then press the save key.
